A Sacred Pilgrimage to Iraq

The Awakened Heart: A Seeker's Journey to Baghdad's Saints

Baghdad is not merely a city of brick and mortar, but a living heart that beats with the remembrance of Allah. For centuries, its soil has cradled the Awliya—the Friends of God—whose luminous presence transforms its very air into a breath of divine grace. This is an invitation to tread a path walked by the lovers of Truth, standing where their feet stood, seeking a drop from the ocean of their spiritual legacy.

Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (RA)

Ghous-ul-Azam | The Sultan of Saints

He is the Ghous-ul-Azam, a sun around whom orbits the galaxy of divine love. To visit the noble sanctuary of Sayyiduna Abdul Qadir Jilani is to step into a flood of eternal faiz (spiritual effulgence). His is the resting place where countless distressed hearts find solace.

He taught that the path to the Divine is through the crushing of the ego. Under the guidance of Sheikh Sayed Tanveer Hashmi, pilgrims connect with the founder of the Qadiriyya path, learning that true freedom is found in utter servitude to the Beloved.

Sheikh Maroof al-Karkhi (RA)

The Gateway of Fulfillment | Bab al-Hawaij

Sheikh Maroof al-Karkhi was a prominent Sufi mystic who became a Muslim and studied under the profound guidance of Imam Ali Musa al-Rida. He is a pivotal link in the golden chain of many Sufi orders.

Known as "Bab al-Hawaij" (The Gate to the Fulfillment of Needs), his Maqam is a site of immense spiritual power. A highlight of our tour is visiting Makam-e-Ghousiya located near his shrine, a spot where Ghaus-e-Azam himself used to meditate.

Imam Junayd al-Baghdadi (RA)

Sayyid-ut-Taifa | The Master of the Circle

If the Sufi path is a river of love, its purest source in Baghdad flows from Imam Junayd. He embodied the perfect balance between the ecstatic flight of the heart and the unwavering anchor of the Sacred Law (Shariah).

His teachings on fana (annihilation) and baqa (subsistence) are a map for the soul's journey. At his shrine, one connects with the essence of "sober Sufism"—a path where intoxication with Divine Love is balanced with clarity.

Bahlool Dana (RA)

The Wise Jewel of Baghdad

A contemporary of Caliph Harun al-Rashid, Bahlool chose the guise of the "wise fool" to speak truth to power. His maqam whispers a profound secret: the greatest saints are often hidden from eyes of admiration.

For the traveler, Bahlool’s legacy is a lesson in humility—to look beyond appearance and find the diamond in the dust, remembering that the Beloved’s gaze falls on the heart's condition.

Bishr al-Hafi (RA)

The Barefoot Lover | Sultan of Repentance

His story is one of transformative grace. Once immersed in worldly neglect, a single act of reverence for a paper bearing Allah’s Name transformed him. He walked barefoot thereafter, in humility and love upon the sanctified earth.

His shrine is a sanctuary for every soul yearning for a new beginning. It testifies that no one is beyond the reach of divine mercy, and a single moment of true reverence can ignite a heart for eternity.

Sheikh Habib al-Ajami (RA)

The Heart of Devotion

A disciple of Hasan al-Basri, Sheikh Habib al-Ajami represents total transformation. He transitioned from worldly wealth to spiritual riches, proving that the language of the heart is universal.

His presence adds a layer of ascetic beauty to Baghdad's spiritual landscape. His story reminds us that with sincere intention, the "Ajami" (foreigner) becomes an intimate of the Divine.

Sheikh Shahabuddin Suhrawardi (RA)

The Illuminating Scholar

Founder of the Suhrawardiyya order, he masterfully bridged inner mystical experience with outer knowledge. His work, ‘Awarif al-Ma’arif, remains a lamp for seekers.

His resting place, marked by its unique conical dome, symbolizes the lofty peaks Islamic spirituality attained here. To visit is to honor a tradition where deep love fuels profound scholarship.

Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (RA)

The Pillar of Tradition & Courage

A mountain of zuhd (asceticism), Imam Ahmad stood steadfast during the inquisition. His maqam stands as a powerful reminder that the Sufi path is the living heart of Islamic orthodoxy.

Great saints like Ghaus-e-Azam held him in the highest esteem. Visiting his shrine with our pilgrimage group is a moment of deep reverence, connecting legal knowledge with spiritual devotion.
